This song is about an "inner awakening" about feeling a call, an inspiration, an "aliveness" stirring within.
Maybe it is an inspired idea or thought that won't leave your mind? Maybe it's a new found love that makes you feel alive? Maybe it's a moment of peace, a feeling of contentment...whatever the case, its a beautiful feeling and one I wanted to "bottle"
I am deeply grateful to my dear friend, guitarist and artist Michael James. He had created an original version as an instrumental entitled "The Calling". I had no idea of the title, nor was he playing it for me, but I overheard it as he was working with my producer in the studio.
I was inspired on the spot to write a melody and lyric and it felt like it's title was "Awakening"
We laugh now as to how close the vibe was between my title and his. We both captured the same energy and I think it was a wonderful co-write that didn't start out as one intentionally
...sometimes the best things just flow when we don't plan
